COMBAT SYSTEMS
POWER BRACKETS
In general you can attempt to fight against anyone you want, but that is not to say there is a possibility that you will beat them. In order to give some guidance to our fighting system below I will explain in short the "brackets" in which fights are held.
Due to the fact two people fighting will almost never be exactly equal in power we have set up a system in order to have more fair fights. If one fighter is within 80% of their opponents PL than they are considered an even match. Of course the individual with the higher PL will have a slight advantage in outright power, but the lower of the two can just as easily pull out a win.
Example: If someone is at 1,000,000 PL any one in the range of 800,000 - 1,250,000 PL would be considered a fair fight for them. This system is mainly in place so that a wider range of fights can prove to be close matches, hopefully making your role playing experience more entertaining.
The second bracket I will explain is if you are within 65% of your opponents PL. In this case it is possible for you to win the fight, but the chances are not that high. In most scenarios trickery, good planning or perhaps some assistance will be needed to overcome your adversary.
TECHNIQUE TIERS
On DBZ:RoT we have set up a tier system in which there are three levels of techniques. These tiers listed in ascending order are Basic, Master and Monarch. Now the purpose of dividing techniques into these three categories, as you can see in the attacks section, is to separate the more powerful ones that people cannot just learn on their own.
Basic attacks is the largest category of the three and pertains to a good number of attacks on characters profiles. Anything in this category is something a character can start with or learn in any training thread granted they have a technique slot open.
Master level techniques are those that only a master can teach you. In order to learn one of these attacks you must invest the time to train with a master and earn the knowledge. If a character was to take over a school he/she automatically unlocks any master techniques that go with that school, but must have technique slots open before they can be learned. A training thread is not required.
In order to make it fair there is also an option to create your own master level technique, but not until your base PL is at least 100, 000. This is in place so those that do not wish to become a master of a school can still have these more powerful techniques, they just might have to wait longer to get them. Everyone is allowed five of these master techniques, but these are stacked on top of any you might have learned from a master or from becoming a master.
Last is Monarch level techniques, these are possessed by only the strongest in DBZ:RoT, the rulers of planets. These too can be earned by replacing the NPCs that rule, but again I warn you to not take this lightly, DBZ:RoT's respective rulers will defend their positions with their lives. If however, you ever find yourself standing over a previous Monarch you have indeed earned your reward. Most Monarchs know 2-3 monarch level moves, but if you take over their position you may only take one at Monarch power. The left over technique(s) maybe learned as Master level techniques. Just like Master level ones we are allowing players to make up one of their own, but not until their base PL is at least 200,000. Again these earned moves are in addition to others you have learned or are allowed to create.
Master techniques require two open move slots like any other unless taught directly by a master which only it then only requires one. Monarch moves require two technique slots at all times to learn. So for a Half-Saiyan they will need to gain 10,000 PL in order to learn a Monarch move instead of the normal 5,000 PL.
After hearing all the ways to attain these type of moves I am sure you are wondering how our tier system works in combat. These moves are meant to give you a slight edge, not automatically win the fight. The main scenario in which they will come into play is when you are locked within the fair fight bracket, one fighter within 80% PL of the other. In this type of fight Master or Monarch moves might give you the edge to win.
An example of when your stronger attack has a distinct advantage:
In this example I will use Energy Wave(continuous beams like a Kamehemeha) attacks simply because they are the best example.
If two players, within 80% of each other are using a Basic Energy wave attack against each other, the two beams will connect and unless there is a charge attack involved neither one will over power the other. However if someone is using a Basic level energy wave and someone is using a Master level wave in the same scenery the Master level would win out. The same would go for a Monarch over a Master. Of course this only applies if the two combatants are close in power level. If someone is just much more powerful than their opponent the tier of the technique will not really matter.
In conclusion I will say again these attacks will not guarantee a victory for you, but they will give you that edge and this system is set up to separate the more powerful attacks from those characters are allowed to start with and know at lower levels.
CHARGE ATTACK SYSTEM
In the series different characters were able to charge up an attack so that it struck with more power than they could normally produce. The best of example of this is when Goku and Piccolo are fighting Raditz. While Goku was fighting him and holding him in the ultimate full nelson Piccolo was charging up his Triple Beam Canon. The system below is based off of that scenario.
Now if you are charging up and attack you must make sure to describe it in your post and end the post with Charge # depending on how many posts you have been charging it now. This is effective as long as you do not get interrupted. Movement is allowed however it is restricted. If the player is on their feet then they may only perform a steady walk or if the player is flying they may list in a direction. Anything more than that the charge either must be used or surrendered.
On our site the generic rule is that every attack you throw can strike at up to your full power. With charge attacks you have the capability to strike at above your max PL.
SO again assuming your have 1,000,000 PL just to make the math simple below is a chart of how charging would affect the power of your attack.
- Charge 1 = x1.6 so 1,600,000
- Charge 2 = x2.3 so 2,300,000
- Charge 3 = x2.9 so 2,900,000
- Charge 4 = x3.4 so 3,400,000
- Charge 5 = x3.8 so 3,800,000
Now in order for someone at 1,000,000 PL to fire a blast at 2,900,000 PL they would need to be at charge level 3 which would take three posts to charge and a 4th to release, make sense?
Charge attacks may seem hard to pull of and they should be because of the increased power they allow. However; this gives a group of weaker PCs a chance to defeat a more powerful NPC/PC if they can pull it off.
SELF DESTRUCTING
Alright, so we all know that in several cased in Dragon Ball Z people have sacrificed themselves by exerting all their remaining energy into one massive explosion that ultimately takes their own life in the process. This is a short and sweet explanation as to how such techniques work.
Anyone is allowed to do this, there is no tech requirement to self detonate as it’s not really something you can practice…well practice more than once. When activated this only takes one post to do, there is not a long charge needed to do it as such an attack is usually a last ditch effort. That said if this type of a technique is used the resulting blast is at x2 of your current PL. Since an attack like this is incredibly fast and covers a wide area it is something that is quite hard to avoid so unlike other attacks it can be sort of an “auto hit.” While we leave the reaction to such attacks to those they are being used against we want to make sure it understood that if you are relatively close there is no real way to dodge such an attack. In a case such a technique is used staff will review the scene if there is any sort of dispute as to how it goes off, but we have faith you all will react approximately. After all we have seen examples of this in the show, two of which the powerful individuals it’s used on have no way of avoiding the blast.
