Ethan paused mid bite as Celeh regaled him with a tale that did nothing but bread incredulity in his mind. “Well she certainly didn't tell me that you were into some pretty gnarly drugs.” the boy responded, not believing a word of the far-fetched story. Death is not a hotel with a revolving door that one could just walk in and out of any time they like. It seemed infinitely more plausible to the young man, that perhaps Celeh was speaking in metaphors, that she had not literally died but in fact had her perceptions altered, here eyes opened to different possibilities after reaching a particular low in her life. Ethan wasn't even going to entertain the thought of her speaking in literal terms as if what she said was true, than death was meaningless and any fighting obsessed douche could skip out on his wife and children to hang out in the afterlife where they couldn't follow him, and go on to start fights with inter-planar super-beings that he has no business even talking to, let along starting fights with that come with galactic consequences. Nope, that's just too ridiculous a thing to even consider being a reality, so by process of elimination, the only viable explanations for the bizarre statement was that Celeh was indeed speaking in metaphor, was into some interesting drugs as Ethan joked, or that she was completely insane. The last possibility though was hopefully, just as remote as the ridiculous one which he was refusing to consider.
“Well, anyway, that aside, uhhh... Lunch is pretty good.” the boy went on, steering the topic away from the strange direction it had taken.
