History
“What is this?” Bridget asked, whisking away the light red bangs from her eyes as she bent down low to study a small, light-blue, bubblegum-looking specimen in a jar. It was her first week on the job, working as a very high-ranking scientist in a fairly top-secret lab. This was her dream job, and after 20 years of grooming, the beautiful and bright woman finally got it. She was still learning the ropes, and there were still plenty of things she didn’t understand, but everyone saw great potential in her.
“We’re not really sure, but it puts out a pretty intense aura,” replied a fellow scientist, as he tapped his tablet with his stylus, “Actually, it looks like this is what you’ll be tasked with… Strange…”
“R-really?” Bridget replied, utterly flabbergasted; she hadn’t expected such a task. Casting an eager eye over the specimen, her expression slowly changed to one of skepticism, “A-are you sure this isn’t just bubblegum? It looks like bubblegum…”
The scientist gave the girl a shrug, “Baburugamu doesn’t give off the kind of energy this thing does; don’t you feel it?” at this point, he was beginning to look at the girl like she was dumb; someone not worthy of being where she was.
“Y-yes!” she lied, throwing her hands into the air, “Now that you mention it.”
Things carried on as normal for weeks after; however all the tests the girl was tasked to run involved keeping the specimen in the jar- she was not to remove it. Never once did the specimen move; never once did she feel energy- and never once did any tests point to this being anything but a piece of ordinary bubblegum. However, Bridget could not relay such information back to her peers. She needed a breakthrough. As the weeks turned to months, Bridget’s stress was coming to a head. She was losing sleep, she was going crazy.
“Bubblegum, bubblegum, bubblegum, it has to be bubblegum.”
“Baburugamu, baburugamu, baburugamu, Sore wa chigainai baburugamu!”
Suddenly, as she was working on running one of the many tests she ran a billion times, her sleep-deprivation got the best of her, and she began to nod off, her head falling into her hands, her arms falling to the table, and her elbow knocking the jar off the table. Awoken by the sound of shattering glass, Bridget jumped awake, only to see the specimen lying on the floor.
“BABURUGAMU!” she shouted, scrambling to the floor, her hands desperately grasping for the specimen. As hasty as she acted, her fingers slid across the harsh, jagged, broken glass, cutting deeply into her flesh. With a hiss, she took hold of the blue-blob anyways, staring at it. Her eyes widened as something radiated from it, something she’d never felt before. A sinister energy of some kind.
To her disbelief, the blob would begin to move, shifting between her fingers for a second, rumbling as it squirmed. Then, in a flash the girl let out a scream of pain, the blob shooting itself inside her open wounds like a parasite. Howling she dropped to the floor, trying to fight whatever it was that was taking hold on her, however it would be for nothing.
“Baburugamu…” a voice whispered in her head, and suddenly she fell silent and calm, “it’s definitely bubblegum…”
It would only take a few moments for the blue-blob to completely overtake her; and soon it wouldn’t be Bridget on the floor anymore. Slowly standing, the blue-skinned, hole-covered, demonic look-alike stood, a sadistic grin sliding over its face, “Baburugamu, indeed,” it cackled, voice slowly distorting until it sounded nearly identical to the scientist’s, “I like that name…”
Thus was the rebirth of a long forgotten maniacal being: A Majin who’d long forgotten their name and original form, but whose thirst for havoc and chaos still remained strong. And after such a long slumber it- she was ready to have some fun.
